Canterbury Museums and Galleries are looking to appoint a creative delivery partner for the Art in Museums project.
Fixed Fee: £2,000 inclusive of travel, expenses and materials

Introduction
Canterbury Museums and Galleries are interested in exploring the benefits of arts and heritage on people’s health and wellbeing. Over the past five years, the Museums’ team have been trialling various creative interventions in order to understand how a Museum can offer a range of unique experiences to support healthier and happier lifestyles. This work has been recognized locally, regionally and nationally. And, as a result, Canterbury Museums and Galleries are the lead partner for the health and wellbeing strand of the Kent and Medway Museums Partnership project, funded by Arts Council England as part of the National Portfolio.
This year, the team is undertaking a series of creative experiments inspired by the museums collection to test the hypothesis, that access to arts and heritage can positively impact visitors health and wellbeing.

They are looking for a community artist to:
– Work with vulnerable adults and young people to create and produce 3 ‘stained glass’ paper windows. These stained glass window designs will be incorporated into the Special Becket 2020 Exhibition.
– Create the artwork using the theme of ‘Hope’ and utilising items from the museum’s collection as inspiration.
– Devise, deliver and facilitate a minimum of 6 Art and Craft making sessions at The Beaney (or at partner sites in the Canterbury district area) (sessions min 2 hours long).
– Work with participants to produce the work during December 2019 to March 2020. The project should include between 20-100 active participants taking part in the programme. This could tie in with working with young people as it has links into PSHE and Wellbeing curriculum.
– Gather all the participants’ content and, during March to April 2020 produce 3 cardboard/ paper exhibition ready ‘stained glass’ windows. The artworks need to be approx 2 metres high, translucent and be able to withstand backlighting to illuminate the final designs.
– Deliver the artworks to The Beaney between 5 – 7 May 2020 ready for installation.
– Work with the Beaney Health and Wellbeing Coordinator to provide participant data for WEMWBS evaluation (Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Well-being Scale) for each of the sessions from participants and a summary evaluation report of the project.
– Attend 2-3 project meetings and provide updates when required.
The successful candidate must:
– Be able to demonstrate experience of devising/running a similar project preferably using collections as a stimulus for engagement.
– Have an adaptable and creative practice and experience of working with a wide range of people and materials.
– Have experience of working with and inspiring a wide range of participants, including those from marginalised/hard to reach/living with dementia groups.
– Have public liability insurance and be willing to comply with safeguarding legislation as required.
