WHERE
A strongly innovative project, developed for Mediterranea 17 Young Artists Biennale, to promote the creativity of Sardinia’s young designers, in cooperation with the traditional and artistic craft resources, coming from a rich territory, but in an area that has suffered recession with the closing of several companies of the industrial district of Portoscuso and with high level of youth unemployment rates. A project to exchange new artistic expression paths and to make new ideas grow in a positive nurturing interaction with culture and creativity.
SulcisLab wants to promote a new synergy between the artisans of the Sulcis, bearers of know-how, experience and knowledge that can be passed down over time (nourishment), and young designers offering innovative models and forms (the sprout), in harmony with the needs of the expressive and productive contemporary world, increasingly oriented to the self productions.
The project also wants to activate a process of enhancement of the product-territory, creating a network of businesses related to artistic and traditional craft, able to act with a double strategy: the promotion and selling of manufactured goods and typical products connected to the local traditions, to encourage the development of a market niche targeted to a selected market; the structured organization of craftsmen experts in traditions and ancient crafts at risk of extinction, but with high professionalism and quality of the products, capable of acting as a team. A process of “nourishment” of exchange and mutual sharing, able to offer change, innovation, growth, development and energy for new projects. Rediscovering the “know-how“, but well aware of the globalization process and the “new knowledges”.
The joint work between students, teachers and artisans of various manufacturing sectors has created a collection of design objects and craftsmanship dedicated to the table, that will help represent Cagliari and its territory in the year of appointment as Italian capital of culture in 2015.
