L’arboreto is a project, but in order to present it we should say it is also much, much more; it is various facets of the same idea.
L’arboreto is a group of people working in the worlds of art, communication and nature. L’arboreto is a group idea that attempts to look for and find paths that lead to exploration and experimentation. L’arboreto cultural association was founded in 1998 and its aim has always been to question contemporary scenic arts in general, as well as the differences between them, communication processes and the definition of an old and new landscape culture where it is possible to redesign an alliance between technological progress, the centrality of man and environmental protection.
L’arboreto is a dream that grew slowly and will continue to grow thanks to the people who take part in it and enjoy the experience. By expanding the space of a dream, this project idea will continue to grow in time and space, just like the young plants and saplings the arboretum houses.
L’arboreto is a space in the Conca Valley in Mondaino, on the border between the regions of Romagna and the Marche. It is a real, physical place that can be visited and experienced. There are two houses for guests, with twenty-one beds waiting to welcome anyone who wants to stop here to reflect or work on their personal culture. It is an unusual observation point where artists, artisans, poets or more simply anyone “suffering” from intellectual anxiety can stop to work and live in absolute silence or meet young people eager to discover the secrets of their art.
L’arboreto is a park, a former experimental arboretum of Mediterranean flora. It is a reserve, covering nine hectares, with two woods, small forests, a pond, a dozen or so marked paths and about 6.000 plants.
L’arboreto is a theatre, called Teatro Dimora and inaugurated in spring 2004. A simple building, which is extremely functional to the project, it stands in the Conca Valley, like a large leaf lying on a meadow. Greenery, wood, bricks and glass are the eco-friendly elements used to build the theatre, designed to be in harmony with the environment and to serve the ethical need to readjust the balance between the physical and cultural environment. It is an abode that welcomes the work of artists and artisans and poetic thoughts and gestures for creative residences, workshops, the production of pieces and hospitality. It offers an opportunity to meet other people with different ideas to sow and cultivate. Teatro Dimora fully represents the idea of a common house for contemporary art, a place where it is possible to explore and work on pieces but, above all, define new possibilities to meet and relate to other people. It is a place for training, for creative residences, for rehearsals for new productions, for meetings and for shows. It is a space that is equipped with all the latest lighting, audio and video technology and has modular structures (dais and gallery) that can be adapted to suit varying artistic exigencies.
