In 2020 the research project The Independent, at MAXXI celebrates its 5th anniversary. The project identifies and promotes social spaces for independent thinking. Coinciding with the museum’s 10th anniversary, a summit has been called to mark this occasion by exploring the power of friendship, solidarity and alliances.
By bringing together actors from the art world and beyond, the summit addresses how independent spaces and art projects question the conventions of cultural legitimacy, analysing reasons for, and means by which they organise support structures, encourage forms of solidarity and foster alliances.
FRIENDSHIP | SOLIDARITY | ALLIANCES is divided into four chapters, characterised by different content and duration: Solidarity and Interdependent Transformation are discussion-based, Movements proposes performative interventions, and Becoming a Collective body, a comprehensive film programme.

Nel 2020, il MAXXI festeggia il quinto anniversario del progetto di ricerca The Independent, dedicato all’individuazione e alla promozione degli spazi sociali volti al pensiero indipendente. Per l’occasione, che coincide con il decimo anniversario del Museo, è stato organizzato un summit che esplora il potere di amicizia, solidarietà e alleanze.
Riunendo esponenti del mondo dell’arte e non solo, l’incontro analizza i motivi e i mezzi per cui e con cui i progetti artistici e gli spazi indipendenti creano strutture di sostegno, incoraggiano forme di solidarietà e promuovono alleanze per contestare le convenzioni della legittimità culturale.
FRIENDSHIP | SOLIDARITY | ALLIANCES è suddiviso in quattro capitoli, contraddistinti da contenuti e durate diversi: Solidarity e Interdependent Transformation si basano sul dibattito, Movements propone interventi performativi e Trasformarsi in un corpo collettivo, un’approfondita rassegna cinematografica.
